There can be solar tax credits and incentives available at the federal, state and local levels. The calculator above will show you the value of all incentives your home is eligible for.
Nevadans considering solar energy can take heart that voters elected governor Steve Sisolak. He succeeded in enacting the 50% renewable portfolio standard, which put needed pressure on utility companies to get more solar energy on the grid, like the juice that can come from your rooftop.
With that improvement and the recent reinstatement of a solid net metering program, home solar in Nevada is back in business! You can purchase a solar system here with cash or a loan and see a great return on your investment over 25 years.
Read on to find out how to make solar work for you in Nevada! We also recommend using our home solar calculator above; it’ll allow you to customize a system to the size of your rooftop and track your savings.

Find out how much these incentives and/or Nevada solar tax credits will reduce your cost to go solar and add batteries
The federal solar investment tax credit will have the biggest impact on the cost you will face to go solar in Nevada
If you install your photovoltaic system before the end of 2032, the federal tax credit is 30% of the cost of your solar panel system. This is 30% off the entire cost of the system including equipment, labor, and permitting.
Example: If your solar energy system costs $20,000, your federal solar tax credit would be $20,000 x 30% = $6,000.
The federal tax credit falls to 26% starting in 2033.
With net metering in some states, you get full retail rate credit for the amount of electricity you send back into the grid with your solar panels.
Net metering allows you to get credited at near retail rates by your utility company for the amount of solar energy you produce but aren’t able to use onsite.
As of 2022, any kilowatt hour (kWh) of solar electricity you send back to the grid which you aren’t able to use will be credited at 75% of retail rates, currently about 7 cents per kWh.
At the end of your 20-year contract, you'll be able to sign up for whatever program NV Energy offers (though by then, home energy storage will likely be so inexpensive that it will be easier to install a battery and use all the energy yourself).
The fight to ensure strong net metering rules for Nevada has been long and complex. Basically, the state used to have excellent net metering rules, but in late 2015, the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN) voted to amend net metering, allowing NV Energy to increase monthly service charges by 300% on solar homeowners while at the same time paying 82% less for the energy their panels generate.
The people of Nevada, joined by solar-loving groups from around the country, fought against the PUC ruling, and vowed to vote to remove any politician who stood in the way of net metering's return.
In November 2016, voters elected solar-friendly candidates to both the house and senate. Governor Sandoval (himself up for reelection in 2018) said he wanted to work together to bring back sensible solar policy. Finally, in mid-2017, the Nevada legislature passed AB 405, restoring net metering for all residential customers.
While Nevada does not have a dedicated state rebate for solar panel installation, the state's largest utility does offer a battery storage rebate.
NV Energy offers two different home battery storage incentive rates depending on if you use a Time of Use (TOU) rate plan or not:
For example: If you’re on a TOU plan and purchase one Tesla Powerwall, you’ll receive a rebate of $2,565. If you’re not on a TOU plan, you can get a $1,283 incentive on that same Powerwall.
Those dollar amounts represent about 20% or 10% of the total installed costs of the batteries, respectively. The total incentive value cannot exceed 50% of equipment costs.
We recommend signing up for the bigger incentive with the TOU rate plan and programming your battery to discharge when rates are high and draw energy from the grid at cheaper rates.

Everyone at Great Basin Solar has been professional and helpful. Installation of solar panels done a month ahead of original schedule. Work was completed in a timely manner and installers were great. Inspection by the city was one week after installation and information sent to NVEnergy the same day. Just waiting on my new meter and to start collecting the sun's energy!

I had been treated badly by a different organization, but I had also made up my mind to overlook my disappointment and continue with the process. I met with several installers and set out my desires for a solar installation. All the businesses were competitive with each other, however I signed on with Sol-Up because of the combination of the quality of the equipment offered and overall service they guaranteed. They worked around my calendar issues without seriously pushing the completion date back. They promised to walk me through the process of putting solar on my roof, and they kept their word at every step. Every time I called the office, I got a courteous and complete answer to my questions, or I got a prompt call back with the answer. I think they really care about every job, and they go the extra mile to see that the customer is completely satisfied. I know that I am happy with them so far. I give them 5 Stars (6 stars if it was possible).

My experience with Kota energy was excellent. I worked with Marco who was one of the first Solar reps who pitched to us. After going through quotes with several other sales people, we realized a lot of them were downright dishonest and trying to upsell us into buying a battery which we didn't need as we were still eligible for NEM 2.0 We felt Marco was super transparent and honest and even guaranteed us getting into NEM 2.0 as we were just a week and a half away from the deadline for submitting paperwork. Getting into 2.0 was important for us as the system wasn't really saving us much money if we had to buy a battery and Kota delivered on their promises. We were kept in the loop via our project manager about the status of our application regularly. The site survey and paperwork/permitting documents were submitted in time to SCE and once ultimately approved, we were given a time/date to schedule the install. The install crew showed up on time on the day and were done within ~5-6 hours and we finally had a fully operational system in about 2 weeks. Throughout the process Kota communicated in a timely manner and everyone was a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend anyone to go with Kota and Marco for their solar needs

Don’t be fooled by Intermountain Wind and Solar. They have good salesman but when it comes to installation and actually working with the company, they are the worst. We ha e to beg for an install date and then had to call and remind them we were there every step of the way. Please do yourself a favor and go with another company.

We were hesitant to talk to solar companies. Everything we heard from people was bad or a scam. With John at AAA Certified Solar everything was really easy. He explained all of the options clearly and had answers to all of our questions. The contract process was online and really easy. Once everything was ready they showed up on time and install went very quickly without complications. They set up all of the inspections with minimal interaction with us (a definite plus!). Overall the whole process was easy and did not require constant follow up from me. I would recommend AAA Certified Solar to anyone who asks.

Robco was the company we chose after getting a few estimates. Though the solar rates were fairly competitive, we are very happy with choosing Robco. Rok was very helpful in explaining the process and always available for any questions we had throughout the process. Carlos H. (Foreman) was incredible - he updated me frequently on progress, any hinderances such as wind or rain and gave me realistic expectations. He replaced all roof tiles, painted the electrical to match the tiles and went above and beyond throughout the process. I cannot recommend Rok, Carlos and the entire Robco company enough as a whole if you are looking to go solar!

I'm sure the product is probably fine, but I'm guessing there are other companies that are more transparent and better at communicating. Once we were installed and running, which took close to a year, we were dropped like a hot potato. No more answering questions by them. It's as if they could care less once they've sold you their product. The communication within the company was just as bad. No one ever seemed to know what you were told by another dept. or why. It was a terrible experience. Our electric company also told us that no one was passing their inspections with BRS because they were ignoring the criteria, in obvious hopes the electric company would negotiate or compromise on their rules.

I recently retired in a large home and was trying to reduce monthly electrical bills (Average $1,500.00 - $1,750.00 per month). I received 3 quotes before I met Mark. He provided with a quick estimate and a written quote. 2 weeks later my meeter was moving backwards even after I added an electric poll heater, and air conditioned my garage. I wish all contractors were as fair and quick as Today's Energy Store.

Our roof was just finished by Allegiant Electric and the team there was great. Anthony and Edwin kept us apprised every day as to the status and what was going on and when they would be finished. We're very happy with the work that they did and overall Allegiant Electric has done a great job communicating with us during the entire process. We financed the solar under a loan program that Allegiant Electric has and our monthly payment is less than our current NV Energy bill! Total no brainer for us.
